Eg:  松竹梅不受寒冬的影响，有君子的气节，被称为“岁寒三友”。

注解：原文的三个短句间有紧密的逻辑关系，“松竹梅被称为‘岁寒三友’”是因为其“不受寒冬的影响，有君子的气节”，因此翻译时可增添关系连词because ，以使译文的句子结构更完整，句意更清晰。

参考译文：Pines, bamboos and plum blossoms are called "the three companions of winter" because they represent the integrity of gentlemen living against the harsh cold winter.

Eg: 剪纸最常用的颜色是红色，象征健康和兴旺。

注解：原文由两个短句构成，翻译时应该为后一个短句添加关系代词which， 代替原文中省略的主语“红色”，从而将后一个短句译为定语从句，连接到主句上。

参考译文：The color most frequently used in paper cutting is red, which symbolizes health and prosperity.

2. 增译使译文句意明确

  在汉译英时，译者有时还要增补一些原文中暗含但没有言明的词（组）或句子，或是增补一些表示解释、概括意义的词（组）或句子，以确保译文意思完整。

Eg.  古代中国人觉得月亮可爱又神秘，连苏东坡也不禁要问：“明月几时有？把酒问青天。”

注解：英语读者对苏东坡并不了解，翻译时在苏东坡的名字后要增译解释性信息： a great poet of the Song Dynasty。

参考译文：The ancient Chinese felt the moon was lovely and yet mysterious. Su Dongpo, a great poet of the Song Dynasty, wrote the folloing lines:"The bright moon, when will she appear? Wine cup in hand, I ask the blue sky."

Eg:  中国功夫最伟大的地方在于和平。

注解：“功夫”不可能就是和平，其想表达的意思是“ ‘练功夫’ 不为动武，而是为了追求和平”。因此，翻译时可增译 pursuit 一词，以便捋顺译文的意思。

参考译文：The greatest merit of Chinese Kung fu is its pursuit of peace.
